Take a look around.
North Star is beautifully located just above Riverstone Village in Coeur d’Alene. I love when you enter the building it feels like home and the residents are always smiling and happy. The restaurant has a menu of different options to choose from and the servers are very attentive to residents’ needs. The apartments are spacious, light and bright. Staff are welcoming and caring to all residents and each other. I highly recommend touring North Star for yourself.
My mother just moved into North Star independent living. The family advisor we worked with was so kind and caring and empathetic of this difficult transition. It is a lot for residents and families. The whole staff has been wonderful. I’ve dined with her a few times and the Food is great! She had her first cleaning this week and her apartment looked and smelled lovely. We are very pleased!

You might still be wondering…
Can we afford North Star Independent & Assisted Senior Living?
Most of our community members are retired teachers, veterans, nurses, public servants, and other careful savers. In many cases, their retirement income and Social Security are enough to cover the monthly cost.
When you consider what’s included—meals, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, activities, and 24/7 support when needed—families often find the cost is comparable to staying at home, but with more peace of mind.
How do community members get around outside the community?
We provide scheduled transportation for medical appointments and group outings within Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Rathdrum, and Hayden. We do not travel to Spokane, but can help coordinate third-party transportation if needed.
How’s the food?
The dining experience is one of the most-loved parts of life here. Meals are cooked from scratch by chefs who’ve been with us for nearly 10 years, and the menu includes daily specials as well as an always-available selection.
Breakfast is served all day (Eggs Benedict on Tuesdays is a favorite), and coffee and pastries are always stocked in the bistro. Community members even help shape the menu during regular chef feedback meetings—and some of their family recipes have made it in.
Is North Star a quiet place, or is there a lot going on?
There’s a steady rhythm to life here. Mornings are relaxed—coffee, crosswords, and conversation in the bistro. But the days are full of life. We offer 45–50 activities every week, including fitness classes, games, concerts, happy hours, and creative outings, like thrift store fashion shows, scenic bus rides, and lake cruises.
What if my parent moves in independently but needs more support later?
Independent and Assisted Living are under the same roof, which means transitions can happen without a big move or disruption. Support is tailored as needs change, so community members can stay in a familiar setting with people they know and trust.
What makes North Star different from other senior communities?
The people. We’re not the flashiest building in town, but we’re known for how deeply we care. Many of our team members have been here five to ten years or more. That kind of consistency creates real trust and comfort—for both community members and families.
What if someone moves in and doesn’t know anyone?
That’s common—but not knowing people doesn’t last long. The bistro is a natural gathering place, and we’re intentional about welcoming new neighbors and making introductions. People connect through morning coffee, outings, and events. One team member said it best: “This place brings people back to life.”
Can we bring pets?
Absolutely. We welcome dogs, cats, and even birds. Pets bring joy and companionship, and we’re proud to be a pet-friendly community.
Do families stay involved after someone moves in?
Yes—often very involved. Many families visit regularly, join for meals or events, and stay in close contact with our team. Some have had multiple generations live here over the years. That ongoing trust and connection is something we’re honored to be part of.
Is it easy to enjoy the outdoors or stay active?
Yes. Our property connects directly to the Centennial Trail, so it’s easy to head out for a walk, ride, or just some fresh air. We also have raised garden beds, a backyard patio, and outdoor seating areas that make it easy to enjoy every season.
Is the layout easy to navigate?
Yes. The building is shaped like a horseshoe, with apartments along the wings and elevators at the center. Most common areas—like the bistro, dining room, salon, and lounge—are on the main floor, so everything feels accessible and easy to learn.
The care is full circle here.
The Stellar Living Foundation was created to make generosity a shared experience. Community members, team members, community partners, leadership, and owners all contribute to the circle of care. Whether it’s supporting a staff member through a crisis, helping a community member's grandchild go to college, or giving back to local organizations, the Foundation is how we lift each other up.
Is North Star the right community for you?
Hi there! I’m Rachel Paulsen, the Executive Director at North Star Senior Living.
We’ve helped hundreds of families find their place here—and what we love most is how this community truly feels like home. It’s warm, lively, and full of people who look out for each other.
If you’re exploring options for yourself or someone you love, we’d love to meet you, hear your story, and help however we can.
